We all know Avalanna has ATRT, but what is it?
Atypical Teratoid Rhabdoid Tumor is a rare tumor usually found in small children. This cancer is very aggressive and fast spreading. The survival rate for children under the age of three is 10%. Children over the age of three their survival rate is 70-80%. ATRT is commonly found in the brain but can be anywhere in nervous system including the spinal cord. Avalannas cancer is in her brain. There is no treatment for this cancer. The treatments usually consist of surgery to remove the tumor and then followed by Chemotherapy. Radiation is used if the tumor recurs. There is research in progress right now. They are trying to find new chemotherapy drugs that will help get rid of the cancer.
